U.S. Resumes Imports of Pomegranate Arils from Peru

12/20/2018 06:07 pm

Effective immediately, the U.S. Department of Agriculture™ (USDA™) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will resume issuing permits for the import of pomegranate arils from Peru into the U.S. Imports have previously been prohibited because of port-of-entry Mediterranean fruit fly detection.

According to terms from the USDA, these imports must meet the following import requirements:

  • Orchard and packinghouse registration with the NPPO,
  • Medfly trapping,
  • Packinghouse inspections,
  • Lot identification to ensure commodity traceback,
  • Phytosanitary inspection by the NPPO and issuance of a phytosanitary certificate with an additional declaration, and
  • Inspection upon arrival in the United States.
