APHIS Adds Commodities to the South Florida Cold Treatment Pilot Project

Customized Brokers is happy to announce that APHIS has approved additional commodities and added both Argentina and Peru as phase two of the successful cold treatment pilot program bringing perishables directly into South Florida begins.

Starting January 1, 2015, the following commodities will be allowed entry into ports in south Florida under the cold treatment pilot project:

  • Citrus

  • Blueberries

  • Apples

  • Pears

This is a cooperative effort between APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) in cooperation with Customs and Border Protection and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. These commodities are in addition to the previously approved grapes and blueberries from Peru and Uruguay. We are now accepting applications for these commodities. Containers that do not pass cold treatment requirements will be prohibited from entering the port and will not be offloaded from vessels.

This does not affect existing pre-clearance programs for grapes and blueberries from Peru. All PPQ pre-cleared commodities with accompanying PPQ Form 203 will still be accepted.
